Bangladesh cricket’s governing body the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has chalked out plans for the next 2021-22 year with all three formats of the game after the coronavirus-infected 2020 that effectively created a sheer sort of uncertainty across the world. The BCB showed their capability of diplomacy cricket.Bangladesh will face big names in cricket world as bengal tigers will face Windies,Pakistan,New-Zealand,Australia.BCB showed its diplomatic prowess along with international clout to organise a slew of international series and tournaments during the period beside games under the Future Tour’s Programme (FTP).BCB has arranged a slew of international matches in all formats of the game outside the World Test Championship (WTC) and the newly-introduced ODI Super League based on consultations with different boards.
Bangladesh team will have approximately 52 matches in 52 weeks in all formats in world cricket. In this tight schedule, tigers will play in home and away matches in all formats. So,it is clear that it will be a great and exciting year of calendar in Bangladesh cricket and for Bangladeshi fans as well.
In the last year,a good number of cricket series has been postponed due to covid 19.After the 1997’s ICC trophy winning year,Bangladesh cricket for the first time is not playing any international cricket for 11 months long all together. It;s a huge loss for BD cricket and the new generation in the pipeline. It is really appreciable that BCB has conducted two international level tournament for the cricketers in 2020 during the covid 19 lockdown. The two tournaments are-BCX President’s Cup and Banghabondhu T20 Cup.These two tournaments are really very helpful for the crickets as they could back in rhythm and feel the flavour of international cricket again. In these two tournaments, our junior players proved their capability and send a positive message to the international rivals as we are ready for the new challenge.
The year 2021 will compensate for the loss of the crickets in 2020.In 2021,the tigers will be busy in travelling to different countries and they will have a hectic schedule.Bangladesh will play a total of nine bilateral series beside the ACC Twenty20 Asia Cup and the ICC World T20 in 2021. Bangladesh will play 9 series and tournaments in the 12-month span.In this year,Shakib-Tamim-Mushfiq gang will play 5 home series and 4 away series in the home soil and in the foreign soil.Besides, tigers will play in the two international event-Asia Cup and T20 International World Cup. Therefore,it is going to be a challenging year for Bangladesh cricket. As for,we need a couple of alternatives and a strong pipeline to manage this tight schedule. In addition, the BCB must look into the mental and health condition of every single player.
In 2021,Bangladesh will play 11 tests,ODI 15 matches and almost 26 T20s matches. From these 52 matches, the 15 ODIs are the most important for tigers because these are the part of the 2023 ODI ICC World Cup Super league. These matches will finalize that will the tigers be able to play in World Cup directly or not.
These number of matches are very important for Bangladesh cricket for many reasons.First of all, after one year of no international cricket for the first time in 2021 the tigers are going to play international matches.Secondly, our new ODI captain Tamim Iqbal will lead the team in these matches which will be counted as the qualifying matches for 2023 World Cup.The whole world are looking forward to seeing the captaincy of Tamim.Last but not the least, the one and only Shakib-Al-Hasan are coming back in international cricket after one year ban.
In the World Cup qualifying period, BD team will play a number of ODI series of 3 matches.Almost 8 series will be played.10 points per match. In this year’s 5 series,Bangladesh will fight for 150 points.from this 150 points,Bangladesh must achieve 100 points at least for direct World Cup qualifying.
The first series will be played in January with Windies. In this series,2 tests and 3 ODIs will be played.the series will start with 2 tests .The duration of the series is Jan 20 to Feb 15.
After completing this series, tigers will fly to New-Zealand in February and stay there till April. The tigers will play a series of equal number of 3 ODIs and 3 T20s.
In April,Bangladesh will go to Srilanka to play a test series of 2 test matches.Though it was a 3 tests match series, the covid 19 affected the series negatively in terms of number of matches.
In May,Bangladesh will host Srilanka for a 3 match ODI series. The former world cup champion Sri Lanka may be an easy component for tigers.
In June-July bangladesh will fly to Africa’s nation Zimbabwe for a long series. There tigers will play 2 tests,3 ODIs and T20s.Though,away series is always a tough challenge, Bangladesh has a huge 100% winning record against Zimbabwe for consecutive 7 years.
After this series,New-Zealand will come to Bangladesh to play 2 test matches. No rest period for tigers.Again,in September, the running World champion England will come to Bangladesh to play a 3 match ODI series. In 2016,Bangladesh beat Englang in one ODI match.
In November,Pakistan will come to Bangladesh to play a 2 match test series. This will be a challenging series for Bangladesh. After the Pakistan series,Bangladesh will go to New-Zealand for a 2 match test series .The first test match will be held this year. The second test will be played next year.In total,11 test matches will be held this year.
The ACC Asia Cup will be held this year in June. After that,The T20 World Cup will be held this year in October-November in India. In group stage 3 T20s and in Super ten stage another 5 T20s matches can be played by Bangladesh team.In addition, tigers will play T20s against New-Zealand ,Zimbabwe, Australia, Pakistan,England. The BCB are planning to organise a tri-nation T20 tournament in between Australia,New-Zealand and Bangladesh. In total,Bangladesh will play 26 T20s or more in numbers in conditions.
In this year,Bangladesh will play almost all the big names in world cricket like Australia, England Pakistan, New-Zealand and so on.So,it will be a huge challenge for Bangladesh cricket to prove our capability and potentiality in front of world cricket.
